Ant Control
Ants are one of the most common pest problems we encounter. There are hundreds of species worldwide, but like many insects, only a few species are a common nuisance in a geographical area. The most common nuisance species in the Midwest are Carpenter Ants, Pavement Ants, Odorous House Ants, and Thief Ants.
As the name suggests, the Carpenter Ants are the only species that is also a damaging structure pest. They commonly originate from colonies inside large trees, stumps, wood piles, etc., but find the wood in a house just as inviting, especially if any moisture damage is occurring.
They also feed on sugars and starches they find in or around our homes. Control of any ant species can range from very easy to very difficult, depending on the circumstances. Control is always immediate when the nest is found and eliminated. While that is the goal of every ant treatment we do, that is often a difficult task which may be impractical, or nearly impossible. Treatments, therefore, are broad in nature, using a variety of insecticidal tools. Residual sprays, dust, baits, and fogs may be targeted in many different ways to address each specific infestation.
General treatment time is also inspection time, as each area is evaluated and targeted spot treatment becomes specific to places identified or suspected to be nest sites. Many good ant control products are also available through Buckeye Exterminating for do-it-yourself applications, but as with any problem, knowledge is often the key to success.
