The Importance of Entomology in Pest Control
The field of Entomology plays a pivotal role in our ability to provide a quality level of pest control. Entomology is a branch of zoology concerned with the study of insects. Why is this important? The study of insects helps us to understand their behavior, like their feeding habits, harborages, life cycles, etc. Having this knowledge allows us to pinpoint the best method to treat for Pest Control.
Identifying for Pest Control
For example, the way that you would treat an apartment for German Cockroaches would be different than the way that you would treat the same apartment for Oriental Cockroaches. Even though they are both cockroaches, each of these are different in appearance and behavior. German Cockroaches are normally attracted to warmer areas close to a food source, like refrigerator compressor motors, microwaves, and stoves. Oriental Cockroaches are more associated with wet environments like a damp crawlspace or basement, wet leaves outside, or a nearby creek. Both of these require a different approach to treatment. Without the study of insects, trying to treat either of these would be nearly impossible and costly. Another thing to consider is that the more we understand about these insects, the better and more effective pesticides are manufactured which, when combined with proper training, reduces the amount of pesticides that are needed to control these insects.
